Maternity Photography|Boston Area Photographer

I Am Not Alone

Running errands and talking on the phone
I am pleasantly reminded I am not alone
Little tiny hands, a little precious knee
Pushing and twisting that no one can see
Oh sweet child kicking up on your heels,
it is our little secret that only I can feel.
I look forward to your birth,
when I can kiss your skin.
But for now I will just smile
As I feel you play within.    Author Unknown

New Born Photography with Siblings|Boston Area Photographer

WELCOMING THE NEWBORN INTO THE FAMILY WITH A PORTRAIT! A portrait is the perfect way to welcome your newborn. It officially shows the new dynamics of the family in a visual way. Siblings now have a new rank in the family and they are proud to make this statement.
Capturing the essence of each members relationship with the new baby is the perfect way to record and save these heirloom memories.
Those precious few weeks of a newborn's life goes by in a flash and so easily forgotten without the tangible memories of photographs.

Professional Photography for Babies|Wrentham, MA

Enjoy these beautiful baby photographs of Marissa!
Her big blue eyes just melt your heart and when she smiles you just have to smile with her.

At two months old we captured so many cute expressions. When her big brother and sister joined the session she would not let them steal the show. Photographing babies with siblings can be challenging. I find it best to have another adult bring the siblings at the beginning of the session so that they can leave when their photography is done leaving Mom to focus on baby's first professional portrait session

Digital Media Photographs vs Print Photographs|Boston Area Photographer

OH, HOW I LOVE TO TOUCH PHOTOGRAPHS!

This morning while I was at a hair salon, I ran into a long time friend who was showing off photograhs of her daughter's recent graduation.  She acutually had real paper photographs that I could hold and admire.  I was thrilled!!!  I did not have to look at a smudgy dirty screen and scroll back and forth to view the event.  How easy it was to share the images with other women in the salon and not have to pass a phone or camera around.  We were all handling the photographs passing them aound and commenting on the fun and festivity of the occasion.   I felt that I was thrown back into an era of familiarity and joy.  My love of photography has always provided me with images printed on photographic paper to enjoy and recall the memorable events in my life.  Photographic albums and scrapbooking has always been a secure home for my memories.  Easy to locate and access anytime I needed a stroll down memory lane.

It is different today.  Digital technology has taken over our lives and has changed the way we protect and value our preceious mermories. Most of the time we feel safe keeping them on our gadget in the hope that someday we will find the time to download, archive and print.  But to often that day does not come and the memories are lost due to technical malfunctions.

It is sad to think that some children, when they get older will not be able to bring out the family albums or even the shoe box of images collected over the years and have that "feel good" trip down memory lane.

Technology can be good as long as we respect it for what it is and condition our thinking that the medium is only temporary and we must put effort into archiving our precious memories.  Professional Photographers are trained and respected for preserving memories in an archival format and when clients inquire about purchasing a digital output rather than portraits that they can hold, display and archive it is our professional duty to educate them to the importance of tangible memories that can be passed down or just brought out for a trip down memory lane.

Newborn Baby Photography|Boston Area Photographer

NEWBORN BABY PHTOGRAPHY

New born photography is one of the most challenging aspects of my photography.  Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of photographing many newborns and have gathered a lot of helpful tips for "Moms" to make there baby's first photo session an enjoyable experience.
  • If you are looking for thos adorable "sleeping baby" photographs, you should have your baby photograph before it's ten days old.  After ten days the babies don't like to be in those cuddly cute poses and they do
not stay in that deep sleep when you lay them down.

Plan the session so that when you get to the studio you can feed the baby and it will be satisfied and sleepy.

Do not bring any siblings to the photo session. Your baby is going to need all of your attention.  Best yet, do not bring anyone to the session who is not patient.

Expect your baby to wake up several times and need to be put back to sleep.

We keep the studio warm for newborn photography, so dress comfortably.

Bring yourself a change of clothes, naked babies poop and pee and your clothing most likely will get soiled.

The most important thing is to enjoy the session and be grateful that you took the time to capture your newborn.  This precious time will be gone before you know it.

Outdoor vs Indoor Location Photography|South Eastern Mass Photography

Outdoor Location vs. Indoor Studio Location - Which location is better for your portrait session?

When clients contact me with the request to create a portrait, whether it be of their family, children or high school senior, the topic of where to create the portrait always comes up. Should they do it in the studio or outdoors.  By asking my clients many questions, I can usually help them make the best choice.

  PROS FOR AN OUTDOOR SESSION:
Most people are more comfortable in an outdoor session.  It is a familiar invironment and doesn't need as much intimidating equipment.
Children do not feel stuck on a background.
If there are many people to be photographed, as in a large family, the outdoors is more spacious.
The background is natural and you can pick a location that enhances your home.  For instance, if your displaying the portrait at a beach house, you can do the portrait on the beach.

CONS FOR AN OUTDOOR SESSION:
The weather is always a concern.
It's more crucial to pick a time of day that allows flattering light
You may have to deal with annoying bugs.
Allergies must be considered when choosing a location.

My favorite portraits are the outdoor portraits.  I have landscaped my yard so that I can photograph outdoors for three seasons.  This year since Spring arrived so early, my outdoor studio is now ready to use and to kick off the season all outdoor portraits will receive a $50 credit towards framing during the month of May.

First Communion Photographs|Boston Area Photography

First Communion, a milestone in a spiritual journey.  Memories to be treasured by family and friends to enjoy today, but most important to be remembered for a life time.  Kelley's photo shoot was so much fun. She worked the camera like a little model. Her day started with a trip to the hair dresser for an elegant hair style to fit the occassion, then a trip to the florist to pick out the perfect bouquet of spring flowers to adorn her First Communion dress.  It was so much fun to creatively capture Kelly's personality.  Enjoy the highlights to her photo shoot!

What to Wear For A Portrait Session

  • First of all consider what colors look best on you.  There are certain colors that bring out the best in you and flatter your skin tone.
  • Solid colors usually work best.  Busy prints or clothing with words and patterns will demand the viewers attention and take the viewer away from your face (which is the most important part of the photograph).
  • Dark colors will make you appear thinner and not bring attention to areas that you probably don't want to emphasize.
  • Consider the room where you will be displaying your portrait and pick out a complimentary color
  • If you want to achieve a monochromatic look you should consider:
                  • Dark Tones
                  • White Clothing
                  • Pastels
Pastel Clothing
      White Clothing
    Dark Tones

    • If you like to play with color, stay within the same tonal range.  This can be a lot of fun but can be tricky.  Make sure that the room you will be displaying your portrait in will work with the color scheme you select.
    Mixed Colors/Same Tonal Range

    • If you are still not sure how to put together clothing and color than your alternative is
    The Buff

    Professional Portraits Preserve Memories|Wrentham Photographer

    1911
    |The Best Reason to say "Yes" to portraits!

Every Spring I am reminded of what is beautiful in life.  A rebirth of hope and a reminder of what is important. For many children Spring is the time to acknowledge their purpose on earth and begin their spiritual journey.  First Communion portraits capture and preserves this memory for many generations.  The photograph on the left is  my Grandmother's First Communion created in 1911.  How lucky am I to have this photograph as witness to  my family's spiritual heritage. Through generations the only constant that prevails is the desire to preserve one's heritage and family values.  Portraiture and stories are our only tools to do so.

Professional vs Amateur Photographer| Norfolk County Photographer

    Professional Photographer VS Amateur Photographer???

Today I made a long time client very happy.  The conversation went like this:
"Casey, you are not going to believe what I did to my sons three year old portrait (taken in 2003).  I know I ruined it, the photograph is stuck to the glass of the frame.  I don't know what to do, I love this photograph.  Do you still have the negative to this image?  Can I order a new one???"
My Reply, " Well 2003 that's a long time ago, I believe that was in the good old film days. "  Well the answer is "Yes" I can replace that portrait for you!

The moral of the story is Professional Photographers take great pride in their art and go to the extreme to build a lasting relationship with clients.  We treasure your patronage and want to serve your photographic needs for a life time. Professional photographers spend their life learning and mastering the art of photography to provide their clients with the newest fads and technology and we take care of  your images long after you leave the studio, as though they are own family's photographs.

    Boudoir Photography

Boudoir Photography is not something new, it has been around for centuries.  But right now it is "hot".  Women have been asking me about this new sensation in photography and inquiring about my take on it.  So, to answer your questions, Yes, I will be launching a new site in early Spring dedicated to this beautiful form of photography.  My goal will be to celebrate the confidence and natural beauty of women.  Taking a sensitive approach to this art of photography and using the natural form of light to define and enhance the essence of the female body I will create images that reflect your style, make you feel feminine, sexy and confident.
If you are interested in this type of photography, start collecting your outfits so that you will be ready for when I post the launch of my Boudoir Photography.

Meet our halloween costume contestants of 2011.
Even with a Nor'easter outside our doors we still managed to fill our food
baskets for the Local Food Pantry and all of our little spooks enjoyed getting into the character of their halloween costume and posing for the camera.

    Thursday, October 27, 2011

Well, I have just completed teaching the first photography workshop at my studio. THE CREATIVE ART OF PHOTOGAPHY - For Creative People Who Are Not Necesarily Technical! It was a huge success and many who never ventured off of the Auto Mode of their cameras have discovered a whole new world of photography. I know that all the function buttons on the camera look very foreign and inhibit users to give up the SAFE/ AUTO mode to venture down an unknown path. But together the class learned about each camera function and took cotrol of their image making so they can now be picture makers instead of picture takers! In four weeks the camera became a tool to create photographs. It was a great leaning experience sharing the images that each person created from the Creative Projects. I hope all continue to use the knowledge they attained and let their imagination be the inspiration for their photography. The next workshop will be held in January so that anyone receiving a camera as a holiday gift can immediately get the knowledge they need to use their camera as a tool.
